You may think of arable fields as a mono-culture crop which is intensively farmed, but with field margins with the countryside stewardship scheme, you can be surprised what wildlife utilizes this space. Along this stretch were Cowslips, Ground Ivy and Water Plantain in the ditch. The water in the ditch was clear with no signs of algae. I saw my first Orange tip butterfly of the year down here. The Oak tree in the distance could be used by nesting birds as well as a potential bat roost. It is always surprising how wildlife survives in areas you would expect them not to do so well.
