The Joy of Hares

Brown Hare - thinking it hasn't been noticed

Doing a survey in the Laceby area and as I was checking the ponds on the local golf course when I noticed this lovely Brown Hare hunkering down, hoping I hadn't seen it. Of course I had, so took this photo. Didn't get any closer as I didn't want to disturb it. It was looking happy where it was. There was another one but it had gently walked off into hiding.

Isn't it typical that you see something amazing when you don't have anything like your mobile phone on you to record it! Was walking the dog in the morning and on a recently cut and bailed grass field I saw a Brown Hare gently running with a fox chasing it. The Brown Hare went up the field, then down it and I thought it was going through the gate but then went back up the field. Towards the top part of the field the Fox stopped to watch where the Hare was going. It then went back down the field with the fox in chase and this time went though the gate and beyond. The Fox went through another exit in the field back to its den. Hare wasn't on the Foxes menu that day, but with plenty of young Rabbits about, there will have been plenty of food for the fox.
