The days have slowly been pulling out and the sun (when out of the wind) has some warmth to it. The warm January we have had has made the wildlife think it is Spring time already. We have had Blue Tits looking in the nest box, Blackbirds starting to pair up and even the Skylark can be heard singing. The normal January flowers have been out (Snowdrops and Winter Aconites) but other species are also out from Early Dog-violet, Herb Robert, Primrose and even Daffodils. This is normally a good time to see Lichens and mosses as some of them come into flower now. As life seems to be waking up from its Winter slumber, just remember that Winter is not over yet and we have had some cold February’s, March’s and even April’s. The most recent being the Beast from the East at the end of February 2018. Just hope the wildlife doesn’t go into Spring mode to early as a late cold snap could cause a lot of damage for the species.
